Custom Labels & Decals

Specialty Printing & Processing uses screen printing, digital printing, and roll labeling to make custom labels and decals. These pressure sensitive adhesive products are usually informational, warning, descriptive or advertising in nature but can also be multifunctional.

Our design services provide expertise in matching the proper adhesive, construction and thickness for the end user’s temporary or permanent installation requirements. We can fabricate die-cut shapes from materials such as polyester, polycarbonate, polypropylene, vinyl, acetate and thin gauge aluminum.

Custom labels and decals include:

  • Threading Diagrams
  • Barcoding
  • Warning labels
  • Packaging specifications
  • Assembly information
  • Tamper evident labels
  • Regulatory and compliance labels

Types of Equipment Labels

Labels and industrial stickers are used in virtually every company for a variety of equipment. At Specialty Printing and Processing, we offer the following types of industrial labels:

  • Asset tags: Companies use asset tags with unique serial numbers or barcodes to track their equipment. They also monitor maintenance, repair, and overhaul schedules and provide more streamlined automated inventory control.
  • Barcode labels: Barcode labels can display a barcode, scannable QR code, or serial number. They may also display the company logo and contact information.
  • Heavy-duty labels: Heavy-duty labels for equipment must be durable enough to withstand the harshest conditions, such as high heat, humidity, extreme heat, abrasion, UV exposure, and more. They need to remain legible and securely attached throughout the functional life of the product.
  • Safety labels: Customized safety labels protect users by displaying critical operating and safety information that can be easily viewed directly on the machinery. Safety and warning labels contain vital specifications, such as maximum weights, operating temperatures, and a variety of other safety information to prevent misuse and accidents.

Materials for Industrial Equipment Labels and Decals

Custom equipment labels and industrial decals provide many advantages, including increased brand recognition as well as consistent branding. We fabricate labels in a variety of materials, such as:

  • Polycarbonate: Easily printable polycarbonate provides enhanced optical clarity, excellent color reproduction, and easy embossing. Polycarbonate labels have many beneficial characteristics for a range of industrial uses, such as puncture, heat, chemical, abrasion, and UV resistance.
  • Polyester: Polyester makes an ideal label or decal material as it is strong, tear-resistant, and can hold up well to exposure to chemicals, oils, and solvents. Polyester labels also do not shrink in humidity or with age.
  • Polypropylene: Polypropylene has excellent clarity, accepts ink well, and is chemical, abrasion, and UV resistant. This material is also strong and tear-resistant, with the additional benefit of being low-cost, non-toxic, and odorless.
  • Vinyl: This versatile material is one of the most cost-effective materials for labels. Because of the superior flexibility, vinyl is an excellent choice for equipment with curved surfaces.
  • Aluminum: These easy-to-apply labels are weatherproof and corrosion, UV, saltwater, and chemical resistant over prolonged exposure. Aluminum labels remain vibrant and legible for many years.

Finishing Operations

Materials can be overlaminated with various films such as polyester, polycarbonate, or vinyl to provide protection, appearance or effect. Pressure sensitive adhesives can be laminated to films or sheets to facilitate mounting functionality for the finished part. We can put together multiple layers of different materials to create insulators, shielding components or custom constructions for special applications. Copper and aluminum foils are examples of products we utilize for those special needs.
Slitting is done to create a back or front slit in a protective liner to provide the crack and peel effect for pressure sensitive products. Slitting is also used as a lower cost alternative to pull tabs on pressure sensitive adhesive-backed products. Power shearing and back slitting, for example, are alternatives to tooling and diecutting. Back slits on parts are also advantageous for strategic part placement where only part of the liner is removed and the part can be handled or positioned easily.
Powercutting is the use of a guillotine power shear with a digital readout controller to semi precision cut films, thin gauge sheets and layered constructions into square or rectangular shapes. Our largest production cutter is 54″ wide, but we do special cutting up to 12′ for products such as banners and sign inserts. Shearing is our cutting process for rectangular sheet products in gauge metals.
Diecutting by means of using Steel Rule Dies is an industry standard for cutting shaped parts or parts with interior cutouts, tabs, or large volume. All of our roll labels are produced using tooling, but in many cases, common die shapes or sizes can use common tools. In our sheet-fed products we utilize Clamshell type diecutters. For smaller quantities or larger products, our Gerber M3000 can be utilized to kisscut or diecut products as a digital solution instead of a steel rule die purchase.
